Taiwan has witnessed its first AWS region cloud release in the pacific Taipei region. The company is planning to invest USD of 5 billion in data center construction, operation, and maintenance across the country.
This new region is includes three separate locations, each having its own independent power, cooling, and security. These individual zones will be in connection through ultra-low-latency networks, which will be ensuring resilience and performance.
This development from AWS will provide it access with meeting local data residency requirements, enabling industries like finance, technology, and manufacturing to store data locally while maintaining full control over data flow. Betty Zheng, senior developer advocate at AWS, said “The new region will support a wide range of organizations—from high-tech manufacturers to SMEs—seeking scalable infrastructure for growth and innovation.”
Prasad Kalyanaraman, AWS Vice President of Infrastructure Services, emphasized that “The region provides a full suite of services including computing, storage, analytics, and AI capabilities.”
Prominent customers in Taiwan already using AWS include Cathay Financial Holdings, Chunghwa Telecom, CyberLink, TSMC, Trend Micro, and Yahoo TW Ecommerce.
AWS also announced plans to hire and train more local staff. Since 2017, it has trained over nine million individuals across Asia-Pacific and Japan in cloud skills, including more than 200,000 in Taiwan. Programs such as AWS Academy, AWS Educate, and AWS Skill Builder continue to support the development of Taiwan’s tech workforce.
