The BRICS Media and Think Tank Forum concluded on Wednesday with the release of a joint initiative aimed at cooperation and development in artificial intelligence (AI), calling for efforts of collaboration to explore AI-powered journalism and think tank research. The initiative represents an important consensus in fostering synergies to re-shape global communication and developing new forms of industrial cooperation driven by intelligent technologies.
The initiative identifies how AI is reshaping the global information environment, particularly in the Global South, by providing new prospects for digital transformation. Yet, it also signals systemic threats, such as technological monopolies and information hegemony. The participants urged co-operative technological research, co-operative standard-setting, and co-operative governance structures to guarantee balanced AI advancement.
Key Highlights:
“BRICS think tanks and media must base their efforts on the reality of development in the Global South," the statement said, calling for a cooperative system that serves all humanity. Delegates concurred to establish collaborative information systems and co-authored narratives to enable Global South countries to leverage digital opportunities and support the remodeling of the global order.

The forum was organized under the title "BRICS United: Forging a New Chapter for Global South" and was conducted on July 15-17. It gathered over 250 delegates from media outlets, think tanks, state institutions, enterprises, and regional associations from 36 nations—member countries and partners.
The two sides of the partnership seek to establish a foundation for a new "civilizational symbiosis" in the AI age, facilitating inclusive innovation and balanced global governance through deepened South-South cooperation.
