Key Highlights-
Dow Thailand Group, a global leader in materials science, has confirmed its commitment to supportable industrial practices with the successful renewal of carbon reduction certification for eight of its flagship products in the styrene monomer and polystyrene categories. The certification was issued by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization), a notable second successive year of recognition.
This achievement expands Dow Thailand’s certified portfolio to 33 products certified for the Carbon Footprint of Product labels and 26 products recognized for Carbon Footprint Reduction, demonstrating continued progress in climate-responsible manufacturing.
Mr. Eksit Laksananitipan, Deputy Managing Director for Joint Venture Businesses at Dow Thailand Group, confirmed that the re-certified products achieved greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions surpassing the organization’s set begin with exceeding a 2 percent reduction compared to baseline year levels. These reductions account for the entire product lifecycle, from raw material sourcing to production at Dow's facilities in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong province.
The certified products include styrene monomer, a critical feedstock used in the production of polystyrene, synthetic rubber, and expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam for the construction industry. The portfolio also features general-purpose and high-impact polystyrene resins, including grades 656D and 685D, as well as A-tech 1175, A-tech 1180, 438, 470/486M, and XQ83180. These materials are commonly used in household appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and televisions.
“As a trusted upstream materials provider for numerous industries across Thailand and internationally, Dow Thailand remains focused on driving innovation that supports environmental stewardship,” said Mr. Eksit. He also stated, with these advanced manufacturing practices, they were trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, ultimately lowering the carbon footprint of their materials. These certifications not only validate the progress but also offer assurance to manufacturers pursuing their own sustainability goals.
