Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) the largest airline group in Japan have inked a final Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance its collaboration in the field of education mobility and tourism between Malaysia and Japan with its target being the international students pursuing courses in Malaysia.
Signing the MoU at DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside is important in the continuation of increasing the possibilities of student mobility and easing international student travel. The alliance will help EMGS accomplish its mission of making Malaysia the education hub in the world, and the international student can travel conveniently with ANA.
In his speech, EMGS CEO, Novie Tajuddin highlighted the growing interest among Japanese students to pursue higher education in Malaysia. “We are seeing a steady increase in applications from Japan, with mobility programme participation rising by 24%, which is the highest to date, this collaboration opens new doors for Edutourism and international engagement, making it easier for students to explore academic and cultural experiences in both countries, benefiting not only Japanese students, but all international students in Malaysia,” he said.
ANA General Manager, Mr. Akira Tamura echoed this sentiment, emphasising ANA’s commitment to connecting the next generation. “This MoU is not just about air travel, it’s about bridging people, knowledge, and cultures. We are honoured to support the Ministry of Higher Education’s vision through this meaningful partnership with EMGS,” he said.

This partnership comes after a few productive interactions, such as the Higher Education Mobility Carnival that has been organized during the Malaysia Fair in Tokyo in 2024 and more recent developments in the form of a post-study visa (Graduate Pass) to enable the stay by international students in Malaysia up to a year. It is worth pointing out that a Japanese alumni of Monash University Malaysia is the first holder of the Graduate Pass.
ANA being the biggest air carrier in Japan guarantees an astonishing network and delivery of superior rates of service. ANA is providing their passengers with ease of traveling to more than 50 domestic airports in Japan as well as other premier services onboard such as Halal meals, favors to students, and twice per day flights between Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita airports with the use of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts. This collaboration, in its turn, is to provide enriched travel and learning experience to students.
EMGS and ANA have demonstrated hope that this MoU will lead to other collaborative activities, which will catapult educational tourism and foster long-standing relationship that exists between Malaysia and Japan.
