Geniez AI, a startup specializing in bridging AI systems with mainframe data, has raised US$6 million in seed funding co-led by StageOne Ventures and Canapi Ventures.
The funding will be used to expand engineering, go-to-market teams, and integrations with major AI platforms. Founded by the team behind Model9—a mainframe data company acquired by BMC Software in 2023—Geniez AI provides a framework that enables enterprises to connect large language models (LLMs) and AI agents with real-time mainframe data. This eliminates the need for costly data migration or infrastructure overhauls, a critical advantage for large enterprises.
Key Highlights
The platform is designed to support both on-premises and cloud AI models, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, and Meta Llama. With IBM estimating that 70 percent of global IT workloads still run on mainframes, Geniez AI’s technology opens a vast reservoir of enterprise data for AI-driven automation and analytics.
Investors see strong potential, particularly in the banking and financial services sector, which relies heavily on mainframes. Canapi Ventures highlighted that most banks still depend on these systems, making integration tools vital. The investment also underscores investor confidence in repeat founders with proven track records. StageOne Ventures emphasized their excitement in backing the same team again, reflecting how successful exits strengthen trust.
