HSBC has named Christina Ma as head of global banking for north Asia, with the Goldman Sachs veteran banker set to move to the UK firm in the first quarter of 2023.
Ma will be based in Hong Kong. She will be in-charge of coverage and client strategy for north Asia, according to an internal memo seen by GlobalCapital Asia.
She will work closely with Stuart Lea, HSBC's head of global banking for south Asia. Lea has been interim head for north Asia global banking, a position he will retain until Ma comes on board.
Ma moves to HSBC from Goldman Sachs, where she has worked for the past 21 years. She held a number of leadership positions in the US bank’s equities business, and was most recently head of Greater China equities. She had been a partner since 2020, said the memo.
At HSBC, Ma will report to Greg Guyett, co-CEO of global banking and markets, and to David Liao, co-chief executive of Asia Pacific.
