Hyderabad’s Genome Valley has emerged as a global center for manufacturing life sciences in India. This revelation is made by real estate consultants Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis (CBRE).
Genome Valley provides shelter for more than 200 biotech and pharmaceutical companies from 18 countries. This place is also a harbor for the world’s top 10 research and development companies, due to the facilities organized by the cluster.
Hyderabad is also planning to increase life sciences and medical technology incubators by at least 20 making the highest concentration in India. CBRE praised the cluster as the ‘Global Life Sciences Atlas’ in its report. The cluster receives this name due to its support in diverse operations from drug discovery to clinical research and large-scale manufacturing.
The growth aspect of life sciences has significantly affected the growth of global real estate development. More than 35 million sq.ft spaces are under construction for developed lab/research for the life sciences industry. Gross office leasing space by Life sciences firms in India has spiked around 56 percent YoY to 5.8 million sq.ft in the year 2024.
Telangana’s progressive policies and strategic public-private partnerships is the major catalyst for it being considered as the top choice for an international Life Sciences hub to be located. Hyderabad alone accounts for nearly one-third of the country’s pharmaceutical production, one-fifth of the pharmaceutical export and one-third of global vaccine output.
Head of research, APAC of CBRE Ada Choi said, “The Asia-Pacific region is at the forefront leading global life sciences construction activity. Notably, China currently exhibits the highest volume of ongoing laboratory construction worldwide, while India is establishing itself as a compelling hub of life sciences manufacturing.”
