Pony.ai, a worldwide autonomous driving tech leader, launched its robotaxi service in Dubai in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai, deepening their partnership to develop Level 4 autonomous mobility solutions. The launch ceremony was witnessed by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, and Dr. Leo Wang, Chief Financial Officer at Pony.ai.
This collaboration builds on an earlier agreement between the two sides, aiming to embed advanced self-driving technology within Dubai’s multi-modal transport framework. Initial supervised robotaxi trials are expected to begin in 2025. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA said, “The operation of autonomous taxis contributes to the integration of transport systems by improving access to final destinations and enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitor.,” He added that the partnership supports Dubai’s broader goal of making 25% of journeys autonomous by 2030.

Pony.ai’s seventh-generation robotaxi has undergone extensive testing in high-temperature desert environments to ensure safe navigation in Dubai’s conditions. Already operating about 300 robotaxis in China’s top-tier cities, the company plans to grow its fleet to 1,000 vehicles by year-end.
Globally, Pony.ai is broadening its reach with partnerships including Uber in the United States, Emile Weber in Luxembourg, ComfortDelGro in Singapore, and ongoing trials in Seoul’s Gangnam District. Al Tayer concluded, “Autonomous mobility has become a present reality,” highlighting Dubai’s readiness for future transport.
