Vantage Data Centers has secured US$1.6 billion in funding from affiliates of GIC and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority to accelerate its Asia-Pacific (APAC) expansion.
The investment will fund the acquisition of a hyperscale data center campus in Johor, Malaysia, from Yondr Group. Located in Sedenak Tech Park, the Johor campus (to be operated as JHB1) will deliver over 300MW of IT capacity across three data centers, making it one of Southeast Asia’s largest hyperscale facilities. The deal is expected to close in Q4 2025, increasing Vantage’s total APAC capacity to 1GW across Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
Key Highlights
This investment reflects the rapid growth of APAC’s data center market, which is projected to grow from $31.89 billion in 2023 to $77.29 billion by 2030 at a CAGR of 13.5 percent.
Demand is being driven by AI adoption, with 72 percent of organizations linking data strategy to AI plans and 64 percent of IT leaders citing insufficient storage capacity as a challenge.

Vantage’s choice of Johor is strategic, tapping into Singapore’s overflow demand through dark fiber connectivity, while benefiting from Malaysia’s lower land and operating costs and government incentives. This move highlights the region’s position as a global leader, accounting for 70 percent of cross-border data center investments, with over 2,300 MW of capacity added in H1 2025 alone.
