Before proceeding with engagement, a pre-screening process will be conducted to assess whether the client’s needs align with the company’s expertise, experience, practice areas, and expected costs. This process includes conducting a conflict check and evaluating compatibility.
Next, LAFS’ team will delve into a detailed discussion regarding the client’s requirements. For straightforward matters, they will promptly move forward with the formal engagement process. However, for more complex cases, the team may suggest limited engagement for preliminary advice. This approach allows both parties to thoroughly understand the matter and establish the scope of work before undertaking any substantive tasks.
Formal engagement entails creating a letter of engagement that outlines the scope of work, fee agreement, and conditions. At this stage, the team at LAFS ensures that the client fully comprehends the implications, details, and requirements of the fee arrangement, the anticipated timeline for completion, the responsible individuals within their firm, and establishes clear expectations from both sides.
Once the services have been provided or the matter is concluded, they will proceed with closing the file. Unless the client requests otherwise, the team will ask them to accept the return of the physical file. However, if needed, LAFS can retain the file for a predetermined period of time. Regardless, LAFS will maintain an electronic copy of the file for a period of 10 years.
