Abu Dhabi’s leading global enabler of trade and logistics company AD Ports Group is expanding its business to Central Asia. The company has signed an agreement with Kazakhstan's national oil company KazMunayGas (KMG). Under this partnership, SD Ports Group is planning to build four shallow draft containerships, specially designed for the Caspian Sea. Each of the built forts will have a capacity of 780 TEU and will be investing with KMG in up to four Aframax tankers.
For AD Ports, Kazakhstan has appeared as a major hub for the group's strategy to develop the East-West Silk Road Middle Corridor. With Kazakhstan's new terminal this corridor will be built in a modern structure. This corridor will be running from China, through Central Asia and Pakistan, into Europe.
SEMURG has signed with the preliminary heads of the team for the investment. The investment from SEMURG will be supporting the joint venture in designing, developing, financing and operating the Sarzha Multipurpose Terminal (SMT) at Kuryk Seaport on the Caspian Sea. The new designed SMT terminal will be effectively designed to handle general cargo, containers, and dry bulk cargoes.
CEO of AD Ports, Captain Mohamed Juma AL Shamisi said, “The Middle Corridor is the shortest, least environmentally impactful way to transport goods from China to Europe, and our investments reflect Kazakhstan’s growing role as an emerging export leader.”
