AMD’s recent announcement has increased the expectations in the AI hardware market. Through its latest acquisition, AMD has promised an AI software startup. Even though the company has not revealed much of the financial details of the deal, the deal might be huge enough to challenge Nvidia’s group in the AI sector.
On June 5, AMD announced its acquisition of Brium. The acquired company has been manufacturing the software tools that were used to help artificial intelligence systems in servers and data centers. Even though Brium is not known very well, it has been effectively manufacturing software tools that have multidimensional applicability.
AMD will be supporting the mission of Brium to build a high-performance open AI software ecosystem that can be adapted into any Instinct GPUs and chips including Nvidia’s. Presently Nvidia is the dominant market of AI models, with this acquisition AMD will be delivering more advanced and powerful technology into the market. Furthermore, this has allowed more options for developers to choose from in the market.
This development in the industry was expected, as Brium had posted the update through one of its blogs. The post said, “In recent years, the hardware industry has made strides towards providing viable alternatives to Nvidia hardware for server-side inference. Solutions such as AMD’s instinct GPUs offer strong performance characteristics.”
This acquisition by AMD is the fourth major AI-related acquisition in the past two years. The company will be seeking more partnerships to harness the AI technology. But with Brium’s acquisition, the company is entering a larger market in the AI sector.
