Chinese Company Jingdon Steel will be building a plant worth USD 500 million in Algeria. On Monday the company signed the contract with director general of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AIPA), Omar Rekkache.
AIPA has reported that the plant will be situated in the Northern M’sila province. Jingdon Steel will be exporting half of the output from the plant to the international market. This particular plant will have a capacity of 500,000 tonnes. The newly built plant will be creating 1,100 direct jobs and 2,000 indirect job opportunities in Algeria. The company will be utilizing the local raw materials for the production. Total produced goods will be distributed in equal ratios for the domestic purpose and exportation.
Algeria is one of the major gas producers globally. Over the past two years, the region has witnessed an increased amount of Foreign direct investments due to the new investment law. During the same period, the government created AIPA in 2022, which has registered 12,843 projects up to March 2025 with a total value of 5.776 billion Algerian dinars.
This collaboration between China and Algeria is part of the current boom in industrialization. China will be supporting the diversification of the oil-reliant economy of Algeria, over two phases of the project.
