The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will travel to Slovakia this week. The visit occurs as India and Slovakia aim to enhance their collaboration in business, information technology, automobile manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and defense.
In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Apoorva Srivastava, the Indian Ambassador to Slovakia, stated that 2025 will be a significant year for India-Slovakia relations.
“Slovakia is extremely important for India in terms of economic cooperation with the EU. In fact, the country can be a gateway to Europe for India. Two senior ministers from Slovakia and two business delegations have already visited India in recent months, and the visit of the Indian President shows that there is a strong intent to deepen ties,” Srivastava said.
Trade between India and Slovakia has been increasing nearly 15% annually and hit $1.3 billion in 2024, exceeding the billion-dollar threshold for the first time. India brings in engineering, electronic, and automotive products from Slovakia and sends out footwear, textiles, engineering, and automotive parts. According to sources, the Indian government is currently in talks with Slovakia regarding a mobility partnership to facilitate the relocation of skilled workers between the nations. Although India and Slovakia established a defence agreement in 1995, both nations are currently exploring options to enhance their defence partnership via joint manufacturing collaborations and military exercises.
