Kazakhstan will host the most extensive hyperscale data center in Central Asia, backed by significant investment from GK Hyperscale Ltd of Singapore, as reported by Kazinform.
The relevant decree concerning the investment treaty was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov of Kazakhstan recently. The agreement aims for 690 billion tenge to construct and operate two data centers with an IT capacity of 200 megawatts, located in the Akmola and Karaganda regions.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry is actively engaged in incorporating the project into the national digital ecosystem and formulating regulatory frameworks that improve cloud technologies and high-performance computing (HPC).
The initiative seeks to draw global technology leaders such as Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, along with firms that utilize big data and machine learning, to Kazakhstan.
The projected hyperscale data center is to become the largest in Central Asia supporting high paying jobs and technological independence. It’s expected that Kazakhstan will significantly boost its export of IT services, expand the presence of local IT companies globally as well as enhance its role in global digital ecosystems.
