Lululemon Athletica, the Canadian sporting wear giant that invented yoga pants, will mark its Indian entry in the second half of 2026 via a strategic deal with Tata CLiQ. The partnership will witness the opening of Lululemon's inaugural physical store in India along with an e-commerce launch on Tata CLiQ's luxury and fashion portal.
André Maestrini, Executive Vice President of International at Lululemon said, “Taking Lululemon to India has been part of our roadmap for expanding our market for several years and marks a thrilling milestone in our global growth journey. As a wellbeing-rooted brand, we are excited to engage with India's guests and communities and help foster their active lifestyles through amazing products and experiences.”
Key Highlights-
With a global footprint in more than 30 countries across North America, EMEA, Asia Pacific, and Mainland China, the India entry by Lululemon represents a significant thrust in its global growth strategy. The company had already seeded the country by opening a technology hub in Bengaluru four years ago, its first in non-North America, to drive growth with data science and machine learning.
India's increasing athleisure and fitness apparel appetite, fueled by post-pandemic health trends and a rising middle class, is a fertile market. Legacy sports brands have used local sports such as cricket to fuel growth while upstarts such as Lululemon are seeking to play off lifestyle-driven demand.
Lululemon's foray reflects a larger trend in the way that high-end activewear brands are adapting to India's changing consumer landscape.
