According to IRNA, Russia is set to build eight new nuclear power plants in Iran under a previously signed agreement between the two nations. Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), confirmed the development during a visit to the AEOI on Monday.
Eslami announced that four of the planned reactors will be constructed in the southern province of Bushehr, where Russia has already played a key role in Iran’s nuclear energy program. He also updated lawmakers on the progress of Bushehr Units 2 and 3, emphasizing that much of the ongoing work is being carried out by Iranian companies, reflecting a growing domestic capability in nuclear project execution.
Eslami further highlighted Iran’s strategic goal to triple its nuclear energy generation capacity as part of the country’s broader energy development plan. Speaking to reporters, he underscored that expanding nuclear power is essential for diversifying Iran’s energy mix and meeting future electricity demands.
