Wipro, the India-headquartered technology company, has announced the acquisition of Harman’s Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) business unit for US$375 million.
The deal, pending regulatory approval, is expected to close by December 31, 2025. This acquisition will bring more than 5,600 DTS employees, including leadership, across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, into Wipro, making it one of the largest talent transfers in recent IT services M&A history. DTS specializes in digital engineering, research and development, connected product design, and software platforms. For Harman, a Samsung-owned company best known for its audio brands such as JBL and Harman Kardon, the sale allows a sharper focus on automotive electronics and audio solutions.
Key Highlights
The acquisition reflects Wipro’s continued “String of Pearls” strategy, which has seen about 15 major acquisitions in nearly two decades. Unlike earlier deals, this transaction emphasizes human capital and AI-powered engineering expertise rather than traditional asset expansion. Compared with its $500 million Appirio acquisition in 2016, this deal is notable for its talent-heavy scale, underscoring Wipro’s pivot to AI-native platforms and autonomous agent frameworks.
However, the integration poses challenges, given the geographic spread of employees across multiple regions and cultures. Wipro’s prior M&A history includes both successful integrations and divestitures, making execution critical.
