The United Arab Emirates and the United States have signed a partnership agreement to build a massive data center complex in Adu Dhabhi. The agreement highlights that the new data center will be focusing on advancing the artificial intelligence capabilities with 5-gigawatts of capacity, Energy which will be enough to power a major city.
The agreement was announced on Thursday, during Trump’s visit to the UAE. According to the Commerce Department, this agreement has created history, and this will be the US's largest data center deployment outside the country. The center will begin with 1 gigawatt, over time span of 10 square miles.
United States Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick gave the statement, “By extending the world’s leading American tech stack to an important strategic partner in the region, this agreement is a major milestone in achieving President Trump’s vision of US AI dominanace.” This project is expected to expand the footprint of American AI and cloud companies in the Middle East, giving the US expanded access to the global south.
This agreement is signed by the UAE due to its urge to become a global leader in artificial intelligence by the year 2031. UAE Minister of Education, Sarah Al Amiri, said, “the country is looking to diversify its economy, especially in the area of AI and technology. Investments in AI infrastructure are seen as crucial to securing the region's post-oil future.”
This agreement showcases the success of Trump in pushing AI investment and positioning the US as a global powerhouse.
