Malaysia’s solar market has moved through a rapid cycle of acceleration and restraint. Early momentum came from supportive policies, rebates, and generous net energy offset mechanisms that encouraged widespread adoption.
However, over time, the landscape shifted. A single grid owner in Peninsular Malaysia limited market flexibility, while regulatory changes recalibrated incentives to protect utility interests. End-user rebates were withdrawn, and electricity tariffs were restructured into separate energy, grid, and capacity charges, reducing the savings. Additionally, rising equipment costs, removal of export VAT rebates in China, added further pressure to an already tightening market.
It is within this more complex and cost-sensitive environment that De New Power operates. By absorbing margin pressure and adapting its business model to policy realities, the company continues to grow while delivering viable solar solutions in a challenging and evolving renewable energy market.
The Inception
De New Power was founded in 2023 by Dixon Liew and his longtime friend Edward Kan, combining Dixon’s technical expertise with Edward’s marketing and media acumen. Dixon’s career began in construction as a quantity surveyor, managing projects exceeding MYR 15 billion, including major hotels, condominiums, and infrastructure such as Malaysia’s Light Rail Transit systems. He oversaw material, labour, and tender costs while coordinating with architects and engineers, gaining insight into trade-specific margins. Noticing the financial stability of electrical contractors compared to tighter-margin architectural and civil trades, Dixon shifted focus to electrical works.
After serving as executive director at China Railway Construction Corporation, he joined a small electrical contracting firm to study costing, execution, and site operations hands-on. Mentored by Kong Yeng Kin, Dixon learned electrical system design, site management, and how disciplined management and flexibility within specifications could improve margins.
Later, Kong’s expansion into solar energy introduced Dixon to the renewable sector’s rapid technological developments, inspiring him to co-found De New Power. The company’s first project came through Kong, who lacked funding but entrusted execution to them, marking the start of operations.
The company generated slightly over MYR 1 million in its first year, growing to around MYR 6 million the following year with support from favorable solar policies. Today, it holds Energy Commission recognition as a Class A contractor, operates as a licensed service provider, and participates as a solar investor in Malaysia. “We believe business should contribute to long-term environmental well-being and hence, we are addressing environmental challenges through sustainable renewable energy solutions,” states Prof. Dixon Liew, Managing Director at De New Power and Adjunct Professor, University Geomatika Malaysia.
Customer-Centric Solutions
The company serves both residential and commercial and industrial segments and structures its offerings based on customer usage patterns and savings expectations. This allows it to address individual households as well as large energy consumers.
For residential customers, De New Power offers standard solar PV packages. Each package aligns with the level of monthly electricity savings a customer wants to achieve. Customers seeking savings of around MYR 200 to 300 can choose packages priced at about MYR 22,000. Additionally, higher-capacity packages support savings of around MYR 400 to 500 per month.
For commercial and industrial clients, it provides fully customized solutions with each project undergoing individual assessment to ensure optimal performance. Notably, its solar panel technology is sourced from Bloomberg Tier One manufacturers with a strong emphasis on inverter selection.
In addition, seasonal promotions include rebates up to MYR 8,000 and free panels for instance, installing ten panels may come with four additional panels at no extra cost.
The X-factor
The company primarily operates as an installer and service provider rather than a manufacturer. It maintains its own engineering, design, and technical teams and focuses on sourcing the best available technology for end users. In total, it prioritizes product reliability, design quality, and after-sales support and these parametric are met by its tie up with Sigenergy.
Sigenergy integrates AI capabilities into its solar systems. These systems allow users to monitor monthly load consumption through a user-friendly application. Additionally, its AI studies consumption habits, helps to adjust solar generation accordingly which further helps customers maximize system utilization.
Backbone of Excellence
De New Power has grown from a three-member team to over twenty employees across engineering, sales, after-sales service, administration, and finance. Notably, the team operates independently, supporting efficient execution and strong service quality.
Its leadership prioritizes initiative and results over strict supervision, enabling faster customer response. Furthermore, the company runs an in-house sales team and partners with corporations and associations through tiered agent models. Residential projects are handled internally, while commercial and industrial projects rely on referrals, supported by six agent teams and digital platforms like Facebook.

The Vision Ahead
De New Power aims to drive long-term impact by combining scale with community contribution. Currently, the company has partnered with Islamic associations to install solar PV systems at mosques across Malaysia, with no upfront cost to the institutions. Funded by its investors, De New Power sells electricity back at reduced rates under 15–20 year agreements. Also, projects are underway in Terengganu, Pahang, Melaka, and Perak, with plans to expand and pursue large-scale renewable investments.
