In Singapore, the interior design market is evolving towards timeless, functional, and aesthetically pleasing spaces as homes become more compact. There is a growing demand for space optimization, smart storage solutions, and healthier interiors with low VOC and low formaldehyde materials to improve air quality.
However, this shift presents challenges in balancing innovation with sustainability, managing complex spaces, and maintaining quality. Additionally, the industry faces difficulties in attracting and retaining talent due to long hours and high demands, with work-life balance often overlooked in favor of productivity. These trends and challenges shape the future of interior design in Singapore.
In the face of these challenges, HYJK Design stands apart. Through thoughtful planning, clear communication, and sustainable design solutions, the firm is shaping the future of Singapore’s interior design industry.
Designing With Heart
HYJK was built on a simple belief: design should serve users, not designers. The team starts every project by deeply understanding client needs, then moves into careful planning and fresh, thoughtful solutions. In total, the company’s mission focuses on delivering affordable, reliable, and innovative design, while working toward international recognition for Singapore’s interior design industry.
Additionally, clear communication, creativity, and long-term relationships formed through meaningful, delightful spaces shape its core values. “Every project begins with understanding people and ends with a space that feels naturally right,” states Jaime Koh, Founder and Managing Director of HYJK Design.
However, the journey has not been without challenges. During the pandemic, cash flow pressures emerged, and Jaime chose to take a personal pay cut instead of reducing staff salaries. This decision strengthened trust and team morale.
As a small firm, attracting and retaining talent remains demanding, so HYJK responds by building a supportive workplace with structured processes and a strong emphasis on work-life balance. Unlike many industry players, the company maintains standard weekday nine-to-six hours, helping the team stay motivated, healthy, and consistently productive
Carving a Niche for Itself
HYJK stands out for its strong focus on space optimization. The firm studies each client’s lifestyle to create efficient layouts that maximize vertical space in addition to the floor area. Notably, the team is skilled in using space-saving hardware and mechanisms, enabling them to integrate smart, practical solutions while maintaining visually calm and beautifully resolved spaces.
Furthermore, the firm effectively manages project timelines and budgets through strong systems, clear communication, and proactive planning. Notably, it sets projects up for success long before work begins.
The team dives deep into layouts, specifications, and technical details early, so surprises don’t show up later. Clear workflows, solid checklists, and trusted contractors keep every stage tightly on track, while close monitoring helps solve issues fast. With transparent cost tracking and frequent client updates, decisions happen without delay, ensuring that timelines and budgets are firmly under control.
Smart Edge
The firm uses technology to enhance clarity, precision, and efficiency throughout the design process. Detailed 3D visualizations and technical drawings help clients understand layouts and functionality before work begins, reducing costly changes later.
Internally, structured digital systems are used for project management, documentation, and coordination, ensuring accurate information flow between designers, consultants, and contractors. This approach optimizes space, maintains quality control, and ensures greater consistency and predictability in project delivery.
Crafting Excellence
HYJK’s notable projects include Project Zenith, which won the Best Luxury Sustainable Apartment Interior Design Award in 2025, recognized for its use of sustainable and eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient systems. Another standout project, Coast, was featured on national TV in the program Chic and Cosy, Season 2. Coast highlights space optimization and a coastal-inspired theme that complements the apartment overlooking Singapore's Marina Bay.
Every project begins with understanding people and ends with a space that feels naturally right
Beyond these awards, HYJK Design places significant value on client trust. Most clients refer the company to others, and many return for repeat projects. Moreover, the firm’s project managers hold the BuildTrust accreditation, showcasing their commitment to professional standards, reliability, and excellence in service.
The Path Ahead
HYJK aims to expand into larger luxury projects in both the residential and commercial sectors. The firm also plans to focus on creativity and fewer high-impact works. Additionally, it intends to launch training programs for interior designers to elevate industry standards, particularly in project management, nurturing future interior designers and strengthening the professionalism of interior design across Singapore.
