Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital is deepening its collaboration with Monash University Indonesia to strengthen AI-driven public safety initiatives, particularly those focused on protecting women and children.
Central to this partnership is the AI for Law Enforcement and Community Safety (AILECS) event, scheduled for April 2026 in Indonesia. AILECS, a joint initiative with the Australian Federal Police, aims to foster international dialogue on the responsible use of AI across Southeast Asia. It will bring together global stakeholders to explore AI’s role in education, healthcare, transportation, law enforcement, and public protection.
Key Highlights
Key components include hackathons, workshops, and high-level policy discussions on AI governance and talent development.
Monash University Indonesia emphasized that the initiative reflects a growing global trend toward collaborative AI safety frameworks in sensitive sectors. Indonesia’s broader AI ambitions are guided by its national AI strategy, which prioritizes local competency development and ethical implementation across sectors.
Since 2019, President Joko Widodo has championed AI integration into government operations to streamline bureaucracy and enhance efficiency. The timing of AILECS supports Indonesia’s effort to position itself as a regional AI leader while ensuring that AI advancements benefit vulnerable populations.
