The leadership development consulting industry in Malaysia is growing rapidly, driven by increasing demand for customized training, digital learning, and agile leadership. However, organizations often face challenges in delivering effective training programs due to the diverse backgrounds and learning speeds of participants. Meanwhile, the traditional method of training sessions is not interactive, and participants struggle to absorb the concepts and implement them in the working environment. Most of the training sessions are conducted in a short duration of time, making minimal impact on the participants in terms of behavior and working performance.
Gem-Asia is effectively addressing the challenges of the organizations through tailored and specialized training programs. The company customizes the training program to meet the distinct requirements of each client, ensuring that training is relevant and effective for diverse industries. They are providing qualified trainers with both academic credentials and industry experience, to engage the trainees with their practical insights and create an interactive learning environment with workshops, discussions, and game-based learning. After the training, Gem-Asia offers a 3-6 month post-training evaluation to analyze the trainee behavior and performance towards the work environment.
Driving Performance with the Right Mindset
Gem-Asia is a company that began as an organization focused on developing human resource capabilities. It is not limited to a specific industry, and not restricted to a particular area of business. It is about enhancing the abilities of people, regardless of the sectors. Human resources can produce their best performance and are always willing and ready to give their best performance.
To build the capabilities of human capital, three things must be put together. First, the company should actively seek out individuals with the right mindset. It is important for these individuals to possess the necessary skills. 99 percent of the time, people believe that success is always about achieving the goals. If one can achieve the goals, then success is achieved. The company views that in a different way by changing that mindset. The new mindset says that success is about achieving the goals by 20 percent. The remaining 80 percent focuses on continuous self-improvement.
“It is 20 percent about achieving your goals and 80 percent about building a better mindset. Secondly, organizations should build the right processes.
People with the right mindset learn the right skills and competencies and the right processes. People will then be able to perform well in any type of industry”, says Tuan Haji Azman Taher, CEO & Principal Trainer Consultant, Gem-Asia.
The third element is to boost performance to the right level by using the right technology. This will enable the company to produce more with precision, accuracy, and timing. The company believes in the philosophy that every individual has the willingness and readiness to perform at their best level, provided that these three things are in place, namely right mindset, right processes, and the right technology. At Gem-Asia, the focus is on two things, namely building people with human capital, and with the right mindset.
Building Stronger SMEs with Process-Driven KPIs
Gem-Asia emphasizes the importance of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) linked not only to results, like sales and profitability but also to the processes that drive those results. They believe that by setting KPIs for processes such as monitoring mechanisms and report generation, businesses can effectively steer towards desired outcomes. Their focus is particularly on building the capabilities of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Many of these businesses are owner-operated, often with small teams of around 20 people generating annual revenues of $10 to $20 million. In these cases, the company's work culture often mirrors those of the owner.
The company identifies the critical processes that will drive the organization and its goal is to foster the development of robust operational procedures that can sustain a company beyond the owner’s involvement.
It is 20 percent about achieving your goals and 80 percent about building a better mindset
Transforming Organizations with Measurable Results
Gem-Asia is making all the necessary preparations to ensure it is strategically positioned to seize upcoming opportunities. The government's policies in domains such as digital transformation, national industrial policy, and energy transition have opened up new avenues for the company to explore. As a consultant, particularly in the training industry, the company is evaluating how to continue providing insights for building organizations with efficient performance management systems that generate consistent and measurable results. The company started in 2007, with two programs, and currently, it offers more than 50 programs. Its goal is to build the mindset of people for better performance. To understand better behavior and the characteristics of businesses, it is essential to develop a program that goes beyond knowledge and instructions. Gem-Asia offers programs that enhance the capabilities of individuals and strengthen human resources.
